Full glam bridal makeup: a night shoot by the Burj Al Arab
As the sun set over Dubai, the city’s towers lit up in colour, and the Burj Al Arab glowed behind Doris and Anthony. A setting like that called for a high-glam, sophisticated look. Here’s how I created Doris’s full glam bridal makeup, with a smoky eye and a classic red lip, and how to decide if full glam is right for your wedding.

The short version
- Full glam means a sculpted, long-wear base, defined eyes, lashes and a statement lip.
- A diffused smoky eye and a classic red lip can work together when every edge is soft.
- Night and flash photography need more definition than daylight, never more shimmer.
- Hair swept up with a headpiece keeps the focus on the face and the neckline.
Full glam bridal makeup for Doris and Anthony
The sun had just kissed the sky goodnight, and the buildings along the coast were glowing with colourful lights, the perfect backdrop for this lovely couple. Meanwhile, behind them stood the Burj Al Arab, which sits on its own man-made island just off Jumeirah.
Because the setting and Doris’s red gown were so dramatic, I wanted her look to be high-glam and sophisticated to match. I swept her hair up and added the beautiful headpiece she had chosen. Then I opted for a smoky eye for a little drama, paired with a classic red lip. For the lips, I used one of my favourite reds at the time, MAKE UP FOR EVER’s matte shade Mat 8.
Finally, thank you to Doris and Anthony; it was such a pleasure to work with you both!
What is full glam bridal makeup?
In short, full glam is the most polished, camera-ready version of bridal makeup. Compared with soft glam or a natural look, every feature is defined, but the skin should still look like skin.
Fresh and minimal
Natural
- Sheer coverage, so skin looks like skin
- Groomed brows as well as mascara
- Either a tinted balm or a soft nude lip
Polished and romantic
Soft glam
- Medium coverage, while keeping a gentle glow
- Diffused neutral eyes and lashes
- Usually a rosy nude or pink lip
Sculpted and dramatic
Full glam
- Full, long-wear coverage, plus contour
- A smoky or defined eye and fuller lashes
- A statement lip, such as a classic red
How to wear a red lip with full glam bridal makeup
A smoky eye and a red lip together can look striking or heavy; the difference is all in the details. This is how I balance them. Not sure which red suits you? Here’s how to choose lipstick colour for your undertone.
01
Diffuse the eyes
First, keep the smoky eye soft at the edges, with the deepest colour close to the lashes, so the face doesn’t feel top-heavy.
02
Prep the lips
Next, smooth the lips with a balm, then blot it away completely. A red lipstick shows every dry patch, so this step matters.
03
Line and fill
Then trace the outline with a matching red liner and fill in the whole lip, which keeps the colour even as it wears.
04
Layer and blot
After that, apply the lipstick in two thin layers with a tissue blot in between, so the colour lasts through the kiss and the toast.
05
Sharpen the edges
Finally, clean around the lip line with a little concealer on a flat brush. A crisp edge is what makes a red lip look truly glamorous.

Full glam bridal makeup for night photos
Evening light and camera flash flatten the face, so a night look needs a little more structure than a daytime one.
Sculpted, not shiny
Skin
- Build coverage where it’s needed, then set it well
- Add soft contour, so features don’t flatten
- Avoid flash-reflective powders, because they can look white in photos
Defined and lifted
Eyes
- Deepen the outer corner, which adds shape
- Choose fuller lashes, since they read well at night
- Use waterproof liner and mascara, since evenings can be emotional
Bold and crisp
Lips
- Pick a red or berry, ideally with a long-wear finish
- Line precisely, especially for deep shades
- Pack the lipstick for touch-ups after dinner
Swept up and secure
Hair
- An elegant updo shows off the neckline as well as earrings
- Add a headpiece, just as Doris did, for sparkle
- Use flexible hold, so it still looks soft

Full glam bridal makeup: your questions
What does full glam bridal makeup include?
Usually a sculpted, long-wear base with contour and highlight, a defined or smoky eye, fuller lashes and a statement lip. Everything is set to last through photos, tears and dancing.
Can I wear a smoky eye and a red lip on my wedding day?
Yes, as long as the eye stays diffused and soft at the edges. Keep the deepest colour close to the lashes, and let the red lip be crisp and precise.
Does full glam look heavy in photos?
Not when it’s blended well. In fact, full glam often photographs more naturally at night, because flash and low light wash out softer makeup.
Can I change from soft glam to full glam for the reception?
Yes. With the Curated Experience, your artist stays with you for up to eight hours and can deepen the eyes and switch to a bolder lip for the evening.
